The Party's satirical messages during the corona crisis
Irony is at the core of German party Die Partei.
Die Partei translates to The Party, and their slogan is that you should vote for them because “they are very good.” They originally spawned from German satire magazine Titanic, and during the corona crisis often aligned with antifa. Their direction, while ironic, is usually pro-mask and pro-vaccination.
Below are some of their protest signs from the past year, which I photographed during my travels in Germany. I’m not part of any group and present messages as they are.
The sign reads “We’ll vaccinate you all,” showing a take on the antifa logo with two syringes. Frankfurt, December 12, 2020.
The antifa call of “Alerta! Alerta! Antifascista” is being spun into “… Anticovidiotista.” The word covidiot was used by some politicians and others to refer to the Lateral Thinking group.
Conflict erupts between a The Party member and a protester against the coronavirus measures.
The Party hands out fake 500 Euro bills to people — a satirical response to suggestions that antifa and other left-wing groups are being paid to protest. At a counter-protest to Lateral Thinkers, Munich, September 12, 2020.
Tin foil is used as symbol by both corona measures protesters, and counter-protesters, to reference conspiracy theories. Frankfurt, November 14, 2020.
This slogan can mean both “Limit people’s rights,” as well as “Limit the followers of right-wing politics.” Munich, September 12, 2020.
“Chemtrails should only be used for the weather. Stop forced vaccination!” The sign continues: “We don’t support Covid’20.” Frankfurt, May 23, 2020.
Police separates The Party from the Lateral Thinking protest. A water cannon is seen in the back; it remained unused that day, but was used on other days, against both protesters and counter-protesters. Frankfurt, December 12, 2020.
